How Much Faster Is Konqueror With WebKit?

We always knew that WebKit is going to make Konqueror faster; but how much faster? Today we test that by putting Konqueror with KHTML through the SunSpider JavaScript Test and the then do the same with WebKit.

…Surprisingly Konqueror with WebKit is also faster than Firefox 4.0 Beta 2. The difference does not seem much in the graph above but it is around 400ms which is quite a significant difference if you consider that Konqueror (WebKit) has a total time of around 1000ms.
V8 Benchmark
The result here is quite interesting. As expected Konqueror with KHTML does not perform very well, with it failing to cross even 200 in any of the tests. It even failed to complete in the Splay test. The final score of the V8 Benchmark is calculated as a Geometric Mean of all the scores. If we neglect the Splay test, Konqueror with KHTML scores around 70.
The score that Konqueror got with WebKit is a huge surprise however. It scored over 1100 which is much higher that Firefox 4.0 Beta 2, which managed a score of just below 400. Konqueror with WebKit also managed to score way more than Firefox in every tests. A very impressive performance indeed.
Conclusion
So, there you have it you cannot even compare Konqueror (KHTML) with Konqueror…

Web Browsers’ Private Modes Leak Info, Say Researchers!

Browsing the Web in “private mode” isn’t as private as users think, a researcher said today.

…that could reveal some of the sites that you’ve been to,” said Collin Jackson, an assistant research professor at the Silicon Valley campus of Carnegie Mellon University. Jackson, along with three colleagues from Stanford University, will present their findings later today at the Usenix Security Symposium in Washington, D.C.

Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Chrome and Safari offer private browsing intended to cloak a user from Web sites and erase all browsing evidence from the PC or Mac.

Apple’s Safari was the first browser to feature private browsing, followed in 2008 by Google’s Chrome, and in the next year, by Microsoft’s IE and Mozilla’s Firefox. Opera added a similar feature this summer, but was not included in the research.

The tools are designed primarily to prevent Web destinations from being recorded to the browser’s history so that someone else with access to the computer — a spouse, say, or child — can’t see where the browser’s been. Chrome, calls its feature “Incognito,” while IE dubs it…

…Apple iPhone is not only a mobile phone, but also an iPod.
Most of the features of the iPod are available in the Apple iPhone. A web browser, an organizer, a note taker and a camera make the Apple iPhone highly versatile in its capabilities and one of its kind. Some of the unique features are as below:
While most phones have only one microphone, Apple iPhone has two. The main mic, located on the bottom next to the dock connector, is for phone calls, voice commands, and memos. The second mic, built into the top near the headphone jack, is for face Time calls and for making your phone calls better. It works with the main mic to suppress unwanted and distracting background sounds, such as music and loud conversation. This dual-mic noise suppression helps make every conversation a quiet one.
Apple iPhone includes a built-in three-axis gyroscope. When paired with the accelerometer, it makes iPhone capable of advanced motion sensing such as user acceleration, full 3D attitude, and rotation rate. Translation: more…

BlackBerry Torch 9800: First Blackberry 6 OS Smartphone

The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 with BlackBerry 6 keeps RIM in the smartphone game.

…Part of the difference is clearly processor and graphics based: the Torch uses the same 624 MHz, ARM11-class processor as in the Bold, while the iPhone 4 and top Android phones are using 800 MHz or 1 GHz, Cortex-A8-class processors that are twice as fast or faster.
Sticking with the basic Bold platform helps keep the Torch compatible with third-party software, though. Apps I downloaded from BlackBerry App World generally worked, except if they tried to hand off to the browser (like Viigo (Free, ) does.) Some apps didn’t use the touch interface, but they worked fine with the trackpad and keyboard. That said, BlackBerry is still behind other platforms in terms of delivering a rich array of apps. While I found games, business, and entertainment apps in App World, there are just many fewer than there are either in the Android Market or on the iTunes Store….

News Update: Research in Motion’s New BlackBerry Web Browser Beats iPhone in Test (RIMM, AAPL)

Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry users have waited a decade for an improvement to the current web browsing experience most users would describe as grim relative to other smartphones. When RIM acquired Torch Mobile some time ago, crackberry users rejoiced that they may finally get a WebKit-based browser, capable of holding its own with those experienced by owners of the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and other similar high-end smartphones. It look like patience may have paid off. Tech blog Engadget ran an HTML5 test and noted that the new WebKit browser found in BlackBerry latest version of its operating system (6.0) scored a 208 (out of 300) - topping the iPhone’s score of 185 and the HTC Incredible’s score of 151. The new operating system is slated to be released some time in the third quarter of this year. SmarTrend currently has Research In Motion in an Uptrend. Since 2008, SmarTrend subscribers trading Research In Motion using our alerts outperformed the stock by 603%. We are monitoring these developments and will alert subscribers to any change in trend.
