Google Patches Security Holes in Chrome Browser ~ e2z News

New research indicates that cracks in the moon’s crust have formed as the interior has cooled and shrunk over the past billion years or so. That means the surface has shrunk, too, though not so much you’d notice from gazing at it.

…Google on Thursday released a new version of its Chrome browser that patches nine security vulnerabilities, including two critical threats.Version 5.0.375.127, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, comes roughly three weeks after a security patch that fixed five Chrome flaws. Google usually updates Chrome every 2 to 4 weeks.Software vulnerability tracker Secunia rates the latest Chrome update as “highly critical,” its second-highest ranking after “extremely critical.”One Chrome flaw has an “unknown impact,” while others “can be exploited by malicious people to conduct spoofing attacks and compromise a user’s system,” according to post on Secunia’s site.In addition to the two critical flaws, Chrome 5.0.375.127 patches seven less-serious threats, including one medium and six high-level vulnerabilities. The two most-serious, critical issues include a crash on system shutdown due to a notifications bug, and memory corruption with the file dialog, according to Google.Chrome, known for its speed and security,…

Typographic pizzazz: Coming to a Web near you

Your favorite font could soon be coming to the Web. That’s because of a new technology called Web Open Font Format, or WOFF, that has attracted support from all the right players: browser makers, standards groups, typography designers, and online services to ease licensing. The technology,

…jdaggett/webfonts/historicaltext.htmlIn other words, it’s showing how font choice can add a little flavor of history. I don’t think anybody was trying to make a political or religious statement here. I have yet to detect any anti-Catholic agenda at Mozilla. :) Like this 8 people like this comment
by juan_trujillo August 18, 2010 8:46 AM PDT Relax man. It’s just a font example with some historical background. You don’t have to imply conspirative theories behind every single statement. Like this 11 people like this comment
by KeithBeucler August 18, 2010 6:33 AM PDT According to this article, the use of WOFF would still be dependent on the user having the latest browser version. Anyone who develops for the web knows that they still have to support legacy browsers. I prefer the use of web based fonts. By using a web based font you only have to insure that the service you are using is up and running.Although controversial, perhaps the best way to insure users have the latest browser is to…

…Have you been waiting for Firefox for your Android device? Then your wait might be coming to an end as Fennec 2.0 is all set to release in coming days and the mobile version of the most popular web browser Mozilla Firefox is going to come on one of the most popular mobile platform.
Now things are starting to stabilize ( ) we are gearing up for the first Fennec 2.0 alpha release in just a few weeks, Mozilla’s Matt Brubeck noted in a recent blog post. Fennec 2 will run on Android and MeeGo (it has been working on Maemo for a while now).
One of the big changes in Fennec 2 is Electrolysis, which separates content rendering and javascript into two different processes. This allows the app’s UI to be responsive while the javascript is rendering and doing its thing. It also could protect the app from crashing should it encounter pages that are script-heavy. Fennec for mobile phones will also offer Sync function that will allow you to sync tabs, bookmarks, and history from your desktop computer.

Here are some…

4Chan Thread Downloader

Hate it or love it.

…Hate it or love it. The 4Chan message board is without doubt one of the most controversial sites on the Internet. Not only because of the contents posted on the site, but also the infamous site raids planned and executed there. The 30-or-so boards cater to a specific audience, and is largely concentrating on Japanese culture, adult contents, creative categories and interests. The 558 million posts speak for themselves. Many threads offer a wealth of images that are posted by 4Chan users, and while it is perfectly possible to download them one-by-one in the web browser, it usually makes more sense to automate the process as much as possible. The free software 4Chan Thread downloader is an application for the Microsoft Windows operating system. It can be used to add threads from 4Chan, which are then automatically downloaded to the local computer system.New download jobs can be started from the Add 4Chan thread button in the application interface. The program automatically fills out the 4Chan url with the…

Google Shows the Future of Browser Games

Google’s game developer advocate Mark DeLoura demonstrates the Google App store and more.

…”The Internet as we know it is facing a serious threat. There’s a debate heating up in Washington, DC on something called “net neutrality” and it’s a debate that’s so important Google is asking you to get involved. We’re asking you to take action to protect Internet freedom. In the next few days, the House of Representatives is going to vote on a bill that would fundamentally alter the Internet. That bill, and one that may come up for a key vote in the Senate in the next few weeks, would give the big phone and cable companies the power to pick and choose what you will be able to see and do on the Internet. Today the Internet is an information highway where anybody no matter how large or small, how traditional or unconventional has equal access. But the phone and cable monopolies, who control almost all Internet access, want the power to choose who gets access to high-speed lanes and whose content gets seen first and fastest. They want to build a two-tiered system and block the on-ramps for those who can’t…
