New Type of Phishing Attack Goes After Your Browser Tabs

Tabnabbing operates in reverse of most phishing attacks in that it doesn’t ask users to click on a obfuscated link but instead loads a fake page in one of the open tabs in your browser.

…Aza Raskin, the creative lead for Firefox, has just posted about a new type of potential phishing attack, dubbed tabnabbing. Raskin has a proof-of-concept and an explanation for how this type of attack could work.Tabnabbing operates in reverse of most phishing attacks in that it doesn’t ask users to click on a obfuscated link but instead loads a fake page in one of the open tabs in your browser. Check out this tabnabbing scenario:You have a bunch of open tabs in your web browser, an e-mail page, Facebook, your bank account and maybe a bunch of news sites. While you’re reading your favorite MashableMashable.com content, the attack is able to hone in on tabs that haven’t been used or aren’t in focus and replace the favicon (the icon in your tab bar) and the title of the tab. When you click on that tab, a fake page is loaded in its place, maybe it is loaded to look like a standard login page.Because you already had this tab open legitimately before, you don’t bother paying any attention to the URL in the…

Create iPhone, iPad And Android Apps Over The Web

Last week, the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco took place, where start-up Yapper showed off their new service to InformationWeek. The new service will allow ordinary non-programming folks to create their own mobile applications. The service will allow anyone to create iPhone, iPad, Android and even Blackberry apps in nothing but the web browser.

…Last week, the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco took place, where start-up Yapper showed off their new service to InformationWeek. The new service will allow ordinary non-programming folks to create their own mobile applications. The service will allow anyone to create iPhone, iPad, Android and even Blackberry apps in nothing but the web browser.
There’s a catch though, Yapper isn’t for developing just any application. You won’t be able to create your own game, it is for creating applications that grab RSS feeds. You can change the colors, icons and splash page of your application but the basic user interface is not changeable.
The Yapper service costs $199 for Blackberry and Android apps and $299 for iPhone and iPad apps. There is an extra $50 fee if you want to submit the application yourself rather than having Yapper be the publisher. If you want the output to operate as a web app that works on both iPhone and Android, it will be an extra $99 plus $50 if you want to send alerts to the end users.
In the video…

Opera on Flash Debate: "You Can Cook an Egg While its Runnin

There’s a new entrant in the ring to the Great Flash Debate of 2010, which heretofore had Apple’s Steve Jobs and Adobe sending nasty-grams back and forth over the latter company’s interactive web technology. Now there’s a new player in town, with browser maker Opera stepping into the ring to weigh in on the fight.

…”You can cook an egg .. once you start running Flash”: maybe so, but you can cook an egg on Apple’s laptops even when you’re not running flash … so the point is? sander1805Flash provides a cross browser/ cross platform compatibility. Write once and it works the same everywhere. HTML5 and CSS3 is fun and all but with ie6, 7 and 8 around for the next 2 or 3 years at least, we’ll still use Flash in the near future and probably long after. Paul BaarnSo Flash has to go, but we’re not only talking about video. What open technology should be used to create browser games and apps that run on multiple platforms, without browser plugins? I don’t know enough about HTML5, but I don’t see how it could completely replace Flash. If anyone would care to explain… Evan HahnI believe that plugins defeat the purpose of the web, and Flash is no exception. Yet I believe that, for the time being, all devices should support Flash because it’s necessary (at the moment). It is to be noted that programming in HTML and JavaScript…

Soon you’ll be able to play FarmVille on your mobile phone, not just your desktop web browser. Supported devices will probably include the iPhone, the iPad and Android smartphones, and some sort of text messaging-based play could be in the works too.

…Soon you’ll be able to play FarmVille on your mobile phone, not just your desktop web browser. Supported devices will probably include the iPhone, the iPad and Android smartphones, and some sort of text messaging-based play could be in the works too.Speculation about this bubbled up when TumblrTumblr blog Supererogatory discovered that the domain names farmvilleandroid.com, farmvilleipad.com, farmvilleiphone.com and farmvillesms.com were registered with DNStination Inc. DNStination is the third party that also holds farmville.com, the official website for Zynga’s very successful and popular online game.We followed up with a spokesperson for Zynga, who said, Zynga plans to expand to various mobile platforms. We cannot provide additional information at this time. That’s a confirmation that the company intends to offer mobile versions of the game, but those missing additional details include the platforms and the time frames. It’s also possible that some or all mobile versions could have only limited…

Chrome Growing in Popularity Faster Than Rival Browsers

Chrome’s share of the browser market is growing at a breakneck pace, according to data from Net Applications. Between February and March, Google’s browser rose to capture a full 6.1% share of the market, maintaining its lead over browsers such as Safari and Opera and closing the gap between Firefox, which currently holds a 24.5% share.

…share. While most browsers rose a fraction of a percent, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer continued to decline, losing almost a whole percent over the past month alone.Part of Chrome’s increase may be due to Mac users. In December, Chrome for Mac was released, but many users were loathe to switch browsers because the early beta didn’t have extensions or support bookmark syncing. All of that changed with a new version released in February. At that point, Mac users were given all of the bells and whistles that PC users had, and so many opted to make the move to Chrome. In a quick poll we conducted on Twitter, many users said they heard Chrome was quicker and migrated from Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. But others said they still stick with Firefox due to a few key features such as Firebug and certain extensions that Chrome doesn’t have yet. Others complained that Chrome was unstable or couldn’t handle certain websites or user behaviors as well as Firefox. And some of those in the enterprise are still bound…

…Both ABC and CBS plan to stream their TV shows on the Apple iPad just in time for its Saturday launch, The Wall Street Journal reports. They’re each doing it a little differently, however. ABC will use an app, while CBS shows will stream over the web through the iPad’s Safari browser. Not all shows will be available right away, but CBS has promised episodes of Survivor on day one, along with promos for other shows including the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.Critics initially argued that the iPad would not be ideal for watching video online because most video websites use Adobe’s Flash technology, which the iPad doesn’t play nice with. However, several sites have launched iPad-friendly versions using new HTML5 tech and there’s also a Netflix iPad app on the way for the device. Additionally, Hulu’s iPad app is rumored to be in the works. Some CBS shows will also be available on day one via the iPad-compatible TV.com iPhone app. NBC also offers some of its shows on an iPhone-friendly version of NBC.com that will…
